Advertising in Harian Indonesia

Profile of Harian Indonesia Chinese Daily (印度尼西亚日报)
History & Background
Harian Indonesia is Indonesia’s first Chinese-language newspaper. It was first published on September 12, 1966, and was initially managed by the Indonesia Press Foundation (YIP). In 2000, its management was taken over by Mahaka Media, where it remains one of the company’s media units today.
With a daily circulation of approximately 85,000 copies, Harian Indonesia continues to be one of the leading Chinese-language newspapers in Indonesia. Every Saturday, it also publishes HI Young Mandarin, a special tabloid designed for readers interested in learning Mandarin.
The newspaper plays an important role in serving Indonesia’s Chinese-speaking community, with millions of Indonesian citizens of Chinese descent still using Mandarin in their daily communication.

New Look & Strategic Development
Around December 1, 2006, Harian Indonesia introduced a new look through a collaboration with Sin Chew, one of Malaysia’s leading Chinese-language newspapers. The media group also operated newspapers in several countries, including Hong Kong, Canada, Toronto, and New York. This partnership was expected to strengthen Harian Indonesia’s presence not only in Indonesia but also across the regional market, particularly within ASEAN.
Today, Harian Indonesia is no longer affiliated with the Sin Chew media group. Instead, it operates under Mahaka Media, which also manages several well-known Indonesian media brands, including Republika, Jak FM, Gen FM, Republika.co.id, and other media outlets.
“HI Young Mandarin” Tabloid
As competition in the media industry continues to grow, Harian Indonesia remains committed to providing better services for its readers. To strengthen its market position, the newspaper launched a weekend tabloid called HI Young Mandarin, targeting young readers aged 15–25 years. In addition, Harian Indonesia regularly publishes special features covering popular trends and current topics.
Alongside its regular Monday-to-Saturday editions, Harian Indonesia offers a variety of content on health, education, and travel. Health-related articles are published daily to meet strong reader demand, reflecting the Chinese-Indonesian community’s keen interest in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Recognizing the tradition of weekend, monthly, and year-end travel among many readers, Harian Indonesia also features dedicated travel pages every Friday and Saturday, providing useful references and holiday inspiration.
Through these continuous improvements and innovations, Harian Indonesia aims to further strengthen its position as a trusted Chinese-language newspaper in Indonesia.
